The String of Pearls belongs to the succulents. It is also called pea plant because its leaves look like pearls or peas. They grow down on strands, which reminds a string of pearls. The plant is especially suitable for hanging baskets or macramé, making it a beautiful accessory in the room. The plant requires very little care and water, so it is often watered over.

Here you get a specimen of the much rarer variegated variety - the String of Pearls variegata - ,whose pearls are green-white spotted. If they get enough light, the pearls even turn pink.

Location: Very bright, but in direct midday sun they can burn.

Water requirement: With this plant, the motto is "less is more". When it has just been watered, the peas are full and round. You will then see an elongated "window" on the side that is a bit more transparent than the rest of the pea. When the window has closed a bit and the peas are getting a little shriveled, it's time to water. In the summer this can be after just a week in the sun, in the winter it can take several weeks. The best way to water the String of Pearls is from the bottom. So, the plant is perfect for people who are not often at home, or like to forget to water the plants...

Humidity: No special requirements.

Toxicity: Not toxic.
