The Stephania Suberosa is the big sister of the well-known Stephania Erecta and belongs to the caudex plants. The so-called caudex is the plant's broadened, tough shoot axis, into which it can retreat in times of drought. This ensures the survival of the plants in extreme habitats such as deserts.

Like all Stephania, this species consists of a large, round tuber from which a tender shoot emerges. In Stephania Suberosa the leaves are comparatively large, somewhat bluish and heart-shaped. The contrast between the coarse tuber and the tender leaves is what makes this plant so appealing! In addition, Stephania Suberosa produces large, dull dark green leaves with fine silvery veining running through them. Like its little sister Stephania Erecta, this species goes through a dormant period in the winter when it sheds its leaves. In the growth phase, on the other hand, long tendrils are formed, at the tips of which small daughter tubers are formed, ideal for propagation.

Habitat: Bright and sunny, in summer also possible sheltered outdoors, but not in full sun.

Water requirements: Water about 1-2x per week during the growing season, and a maximum of 1x per month during the dormant season.

Humidity: Slightly increased.

Substrate: Loose, well-drained soil (e.g. cactus soil). In the growing season can be fertilized weakly (!).

Toxicity: Toxic!
