Rhaphidophora Hayi is already quite rare, but this is even more true for Rhaphidophora Hayi Variegata. The variegation is light green and conjures a great pattern on the leaves.

Rhaphidophora Hayi is native to the rainforests of Queensland, Australia and New Guinea and has a unique growth habit. It is called a shingle plant because its leaves lie flat against the rootstock and overlap like shingles on a roof or wall. Therefore, it should be able to climb up a piece of wood or something similar, but in terms of care it is simple.

Location: Bright indirect light. The light requirements of shingle plants are between 10,000 and 20,000 lux, which is usually fairly easy to achieve with natural light, regardless of which direction your windows face. An east or north facing window will likely be bright enough to give Rhaphidophora hayi the light it needs. A south or west facing window should not place the plant in direct sunlight.

Watering: Water only when the top few inches of soil are dry. This will be the case faster in summer than in winter.

Toxicity: Rhaphidophora hayi is an arum and therefore toxic when eaten.
