The Calathea Helen Kennedy is a rare Calathea. It has beautiful rounded leaves that can grow very large and are decorated with a checkerboard pattern. The leaves are alternately covered with angular light green and dark green areas, which resembles a chessboard. The underside of the leaves and the stems are a strong red-purple color, which makes for a great contrast. The Calathea Kennedy has a bushy growth habit. Calatheas and Marantas are also known as prayer plants, as their leaves stretch upwards in the evening when there is less light and open again in daylight.
