The butterworts, which originate from Mexico, form small rosettes whose leaves are covered with tiny adhesive droplets. The sparkle of these leaves attracts mainly small insects, which stick to them and are then digested by the plant. The pretty rosettes produce large, beautiful flowers every few weeks, making the plants a real eye-catcher.

Butterworts belong in every Urban Jungle, as they are amazingly easy to care for and are an effective weapon against fungus gnats and other small insects. The species Pinguicula Gigantea offered here is the largest of all butterworts and the most effective flycatcher ever! It reaches up to 30cm in diameter and as a special feature even has adhesive droplets on the underside of the leaf.

Habitat: Plenty of indirect light. All year round at the same temperature. Some butterworts go through hibernation in the winter, during which they then form only small leaves and sprout new ones in the spring.

Water requirements: Keep evenly moist, slightly drier in winter.

Humidity: No special requirements.

Substrate: Do not use normal potting soil. Mix unfertilized peat with perlites or special soil for carnivorous plants. Do not fertilize!

Toxicity: Non-toxic to animals.

Other: fat herbs are rooted only very superficially and lie almost only on the substrate.
