The Philodendron ‘Birkin Galaxy’ is a rare mutation of the classic Birkin with additional, speckled variegation. Alongside the typical fine white stripes, it shows irregular dots and blotches—an effect reminiscent of a starry sky.

Origin & Botanical Background

The original Philodendron ‘Birkin’ is considered a mutation from the Philodendron ‘Rojo Congo’ line.

‘Galaxy’ is in turn another mutation/selection, not a documented hybrid cross.

Growth Habit & Size

  • Compact, upright growth
  • 40–80 cm tall
  • Thick, oval leaves
  • Dense rosette growth

Visual Development

  • Young leaves often still show classic Birkin striping
  • Over time, additional speckles and irregular patterns
  • Variegation can vary greatly

Special Features

  • A mix of stripes and speckles
  • Each plant is unique
  • May partially “revert” (turn greener again or variegate differently)

Fun Fact

Birkins are genetically unstable—this is why new pattern forms like ‘Galaxy’ keep appearing.
