Operculicarya Decaryi is also called elephant tree and belongs to the caudex plants. The so-called caudex is the plant's broadened, tough shoot axis, into which it can retreat in times of drought. This ensures the survival of the plants in extreme habitats such as deserts.

The elephant tree grows in nature as a small tree or shrub with thick trunks that store water and make the elephant tree quite tolerant of drought. The numerous small leaves are a great contrast to the trunks and give the plant a very special look!

Location: Bright and sunny, in the summer it is also possible to shelter outdoors. Not below 15 degrees Celsius.

Water Requirements: As a desert plant, Operculicarya requires little water, so watering every 1-2 weeks is sufficient. In the summer, the plant may go through a dormant period where it sheds its leaves. Then keep drier.

Humidity: No special requirements.

Substrate: Loose, well-drained soil (e.g. cactus soil). In the growing season can be fertilized weakly (!).

Toxicity: Not known.
