Maranta Leuconeura 'Red Stripe' baby plant

Maranta Leuconeura 'Red Stripe' is a creeping arrowroot from Brazil. It is best to let it grow out over the edge of the pot so that it becomes a hanging plant! In summer it surprises with numerous purple colored flowers. But the real highlight are the tricolored leaves. In this variety, the base color is a light green with dark spots and red leaf veins.

Since the plant is related to the calatheas, you should always keep it moist. But do not panic! It doesn't get brown edges nearly as easily as calatheas. It is one of the easiest plants in the Maranta/Calathea family.

The plant is also called "prayer plant" in English because it raises its leaves in the evening and lowers them during the day.
