The Bowiea Volubilis is also called climbing onion or Zulu potato and belongs to the caudex plants. The so-called caudex is the plant's broadened, tough shoot axis, into which it can retreat in times of drought. This ensures the survival of the plants in extreme habitats such as deserts.

Bowiea bulb is light green in color and resembles kohlrabi. In the winter growing season, it sprouts long green tendrils, whose delicate appearance is in total contrast to the thick bulb! In summer, on the contrary, the leaves die and the bulb rests in the dry substrate.

Location: Bright and sunny, in the summer it is also possible to shelter outdoors. Not below 15 degrees Celsius.

Water Requirements: As a desert plant, Bowiea requires little water, so watering every 1-2 weeks is sufficient. Keep dry during the dormant season in summer.

Humidity: No special requirements.

Substrate: Loose, well-drained soil (e.g. cactus soil). In the growing season can be fertilized weakly (!).

Toxicity: Toxic!
